"A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed … to be observed on the 2nd Monday in October."

Traditionally a religious holiday, Thanksgiving has transformed into a secular event. Therefore, it got me thinking about its purpose now a days. After reading the article in the vancouver sun, "Thousands tuck into free Thanksgiving turkey" I was comfortably reassured that locally, the spirit of thanksgiving remains true.
Currently working at a family restaurant in Delta, I noticed that the demand for turkey dinners and pumpkin pie, and wine, skyrocketed. (The turkey dinners at ABC restaurant consist of mashed potatoes, vegetables, turkey, cranberry sauce, and gravy) Clearly, by observation I could conclude that the month of october is not only tied to costumes, but turkey; and lots of it!
Besides the bountiful meals that come with this holiday the time off work (hopefully), lest we forget the forget the fact that this is a time to look at what we have in front of us (literally and figuratively) and give thanks. :)
